Fan of the Week – 10/30/05 – Brian O’Shea

103005Brian O’Shea, our Fan of the Week, is from NYC and was raised a Bills fan on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. He learned about NYCBBB when Matt Kabel saw him on the street wearing a London Fletcher (favorite player) jersey and handed him a business card with the organization’s information. He started going to Calico Jack’s this year and had to stand the first two games but said it was well worth it, “all about Calicos this season, love it”.

His favorite Bills-related memory was going to the motherland for the Bills/Falcons game. His worst? You guessed it, the Super Bowls. Demonstrating his hate of the Patriots, he would cut off Tom Brady’s right arm if ever left in a room with him.

Wouldn’t we all, Brian? Wouldn’t we all…

Fan of the Week – 10/23/05 – Norman Barton

102305Born in Dublin, Ireland, Norman moved here in 1994. He didn’t follow football before he moved here. In 1994 he met me (Anna) and has been a Bills fan ever since.

He has only been to McFadden’s about five times. He would love to make it to more games in McFadden’s but because he is a bartender in Sunnyside, at Sidetracks, he doesn’t usually get home until 6 AM.

We were at the game at the Ralph, front row seats, against the Texans when Travis Henry broke his leg.

Fan of the Week – 10/9/05 – Kevin Donahue

100905Kevin, of unknown age, but approximated to be about 23 years old, came to McFadden’s on Sunday wearing his custom-made, red, “SQUISH THE FISH” t-shirt with a buffalo spray-painted on the back.

He was all smiles as the Bills went on to beat those evil Dolphins, and Kevin and his friends passed around electric-blue, T.K.O. shots to everyone. Kevin’s friends are not from the Buffalo area, but they all lie on Kevin’s behalf and say that they are – telling people that they are from Lockport, which is where Kevin grew up and about 15 miles north of Buffalo. It’s quite obvious that Kevin has done his part in spreading the “word.”

As far as his favorite Bills player, Kevin says it’s Brian Moorman, which love affair was sparked when Kevin found and bought a t-shirt that was autographed by the “pro-bowl” punter at the Salvation Army in Buffalo some time ago. The Meadowbrook Farms shirt reads: “To Tim, Stay in School. -Brian Moorman.”

Now Kevin lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn and has been coming to McFadden’s since 2003. On McFadden’s, Kevin says: “Where else would you rather be? I’m here at noon and drunk and passed out by 7.”

Thanks Kevin, and Stay in School.

Fan of the Week – 10/2/05 – Anthony Marrone

100205Anthony, a graduate of Geneseo Community College, hails from Brooklyn and has been a Bills fan for 16 years. As we all know, being a Bills fan in NYC is tough, so Anthonly started going to Brother Jimmies (yeah, the place that Kicked us Bills fans to the curb) to watch games. However, the crowds were small (haha!) and he craved a ‘true’ Bills atmosphere which lead to his discovering of his new home on Sundays, McFadden’s! In fact, the only other place he’s rather be, The Ralph! Anthony’s favorite Bill of all time is Jim Kelly, and he likes JP Losman but feels he needs to tone it down and then we’ll have a chance!

Fan of the Week – 9/18/05 – Andrianne Beers

091805First and foremost I must point out that this Orchard Park native’s name is not just a clever coincidence. Ms. Beers, or “Bud Lite,” as I’ve aptly named her for her fine performance before, during, and after the Texans game last weekend, could easily be mistaken for a Jill at first sight. However, it is rumored that as a child she was such a die hard fan that she tried to change her fantastic name from ‘Beers’ to ‘Bills.’ Later in life, after discovering that smooth, tasty, golden liquid, she gladly reconsidered and now enjoys both words each and every Sunday with us down at McFadden’s.

When asked who her favorite player was, Ms. Beers replied “old school or new school?” proving again that this woman was truly a dream Goddess for every single Buffalo man standing (or wobbling, as some were at that point in the game). Bruceman was her choice pick that day as all time favorite, an excellent choice, as we all know. McFadden’s, however, was her pick of the day for all time favorite thing discovered in NYC, since her arrival here 2 seasons ago, also an excellent choice.

Adrianne was not only chosen for the obvious reasons, but also for her spirited cheers through-out a rough game. Her closing words to me: “I’ve got a feeling…. (feel free to finish the rest outloud, as I’m sure you all know the words).” So this weeks “Cheers,” go to Ms. Adrianne Beers.

Fan of the Week – 12/26/04 – Nathan Neuman

122604Nathan was born and raised in North Buffalo and a Bill fan from the womb. He was in town on Sunday and knew McFadden’s was the place to be.

He wants to spend the rest of his life in Buffalo, saying “Buffalo is Gods gift to the world.”

He went to Hutch-Tech High School and then to the University at Buffalo. An urban planning major, he wants to revitalize Buffalo and one day run for public office.

He’s currently a cadet in ROTC at Canisius College. Graduating in May, he will be commissioned as an officer and stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ.

Fan of the Week – 12/19/04 – Bob Murray

121904Bob is a Town of Tonawanda native who has been a Bills fan for as long as he can remember, and still holds season tickets despite living in New York City for the past 20 years.

He was a Bills Backer in the early years before the group found a permanent home at McFadden’s. Unable to make every Bills home game, he has watched many games with us this season, and has always been willing to contribute to the Backers’ various fund raising campaigns.

After watching the Bills roll over the Bengals this weekend, it is fitting that Bob remembers the first time the Bills beat the Bengals. He was there at the War Memorial for the 16-13 Bills victory in a late November snow game that marked only the second NFL meeting between the two teams.

Fan of the Week – 12/12/04 – Sabine Beck

121204Sabine is from Lewiston; and, like everyone from the Buffalo/Niagara region, grew up a die hard Bills fan. She moved to NYC after law school, and kept up-to-date on the Bills by visiting football websites. She found a link to NYCBBB on the official Bills website and has been a regular at McFadden’s ever since.

Sabine recently got engaged and will be moving to Munich at the end of January.

“There are a lot of things I will miss about NYC; but, at the top of my list is going to watch the Bills every Sunday. I will also really miss all the new friends I have made at McFadden’s over the past three years.”

Fan of the Week – 12/5/04 – Ella Co-Fan of the week

120504bElla has been a Bills fan for her entire life, all two years and nine months of it. She attended her first Bills game in utero and her Mom, an East Aurora native, taught her to say “let’s go Buffalo” as soon as she started speaking. There was no avoiding being a Bills fan as her Mom’s parents, four brothers, two sisters and entire extended family are rabid Bills fans. Ella’s uncle Tim introduced her to McFadden’s Sunday and she had a great time watching the Bills squish the fish. Hopefully she’ll convert her future schoolmates into Bills fans.

Ella and her parents live in Manhattan and when she’s not cheering for the Buffalo Bills she enjoys riding her bike,  playing in the park, dancing and singing. Her new favorite song? She heard it plenty on Sunday – Shout!!!
