Buffalo Bills at Baltimore Ravens, 4:15pm Kickoff

Hello all!

That was a heartbreaking loss huh? I thought for sure that we were going to win it on that last drive. However, it’s been MUCH easier to swallow considering that the Jets beat the Dolphins on Monday, so we were basically knocked out of the playoffs anyways. Still, it would have been a nice win.

The Bills head to Baltimore this Sunday to take on the Ravens for the season finale. The game has been moved from 1pm to 4:15pm. Even though it’s New Year’s Eve, McFadden’s WILL still show the game and said we are more than welcome there. However, they just ask that we head out after the game so they can kick off their New Year’s Eve party. Sounds fair to me!

If the Bills can come out and beat the Ravens, who are playing for a first round bye, it will be a great start to what should be an exciting off-season!

From all of us at NYCBBB, we wish you a happy and safe New Year!

Nick Flick’s Game Preview

Sorry, but I forgot to include Nick Flickinger’s game preview in the last email. He worked really hard on it and it’s very good. He also addresses that fact that London Fletcher-Baker got screwed out of the Pro Bowl and what it will take for the Bills to get into the playoffs. Enjoy!

Nick Flick’s Christmas Wish List

With Christmas right around the corner and the playoffs nearing, Bills fans should ask for one thing. The playoffs. Now I know being 7-7 they might look grim, and with three other 7-7 teams and four 8-6 teams, the route is complicated and confusing. My article will be dedicated to sorting this very complicated process out, so every one knows whom to root for in McFadden’s this weekend.

My list for Santa:
Bills to beat the Titans and Ravens
Jets to lose to Miami
Jaguars to lose to the Patriots or Chiefs
Broncos or Steelers to beat the Bengals

If jolly old Saint Nick grants me just these five gifts, we’ll all be watching the Charging Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round. Now obviously this needs some explanation. Why would we be rooting for the Broncos, Chiefs, and Steelers? It’s all due to tiebreakers. If we win our next two games and all the 8-6 teams lose one we will have the tiebreaker over all of them. I’m actually not positive about the Bengals, it determines how the NFL values our two losses to their one loss against the Pats, and our must win against the Ravens to their 1-1 split with the Ravens. You’ll have to call Roger Goodell to figure that one out. But for hope’s sake I’m going to give us the edge. And for the rest of them I’m your guy.

So in an NFL 3 way or more tie, if two teams are in the same division it goes by division tiebreakers to immediately kick one of those two teams out. If the Jets lose to the Dolphins and the Bills win our next two we will knock them out of the playoffs. Sadly if the Jets beat the Fish we will be eliminated from the post season. No matter what else happens, if the Jets beat the Dolphins we’re out, so root for the fish like you never have in your whole life. If we need any win more than the Bills this week its Miami. Please Joey, do it for all of us. But if J.P. beats Tennessee and Baltimore, and the Jets lose to Miami, we will have split head-to-head, tied division record, tied common opponents, and the Bills would take it in the AFC record.

That would leave us, Jags, Bengals, and Broncos looking for wild card dreams. Now if the Jags lose one of their next two, we win out and either, or both, the Bengals or Broncos go 1-1 the Jaguars will be eliminated, considering their AFC record would be lower than all three if the Bengals win, or just the Bills and Broncos if the Broncos win, so either way they would be eliminated.

And then there were three, the Bills, the Bengals, and the Broncos. In this situation, if Denver Beats Cinci they will be in the playoffs whether they win or lose to the 49ers. Leaving the Bills and Bengals in a convoluted head-to-head match-up that I explained in the beginning, but don’t know the answer to. I think the Bills make it, but don’t hold me to it. However if Cincinnati beat Denver then the Bills would make it only if Denver loses again the next week to San Francisco, or if the Bengals lose to the Steelers week 17. So lets just hope the Bengals lose their next two, it makes every thing a lot easier.

So for us to beat out Denver we need them to lose two in a row. I don’t see that happening, but as it stands right now, the only must wins this week are the Bills and Miami. On a side note, if the Bills, Steelers, and Chiefs all go 9-7, the Bills make it over those two so I didn’t discuss them, so don’t worry about rooting for them. We actually could use big week 17 wins by both of them.

Recap: Order of importance this week.
1. Miami over the Jets (if we win it won’t matter with if this doesn’t go our way)
2. Bills over Titans (absolutely miniscule shot, but still plausible if we lose)
3. Patriots over the Jaguars (If this happens all we need to do is win to edge out the Jags)
4. Broncos over Bengals (We want this to happen, it’s not necessary but it would definitely help.)

Get your different foam fingers out, we need to do a lot of cheering, but on the upside its very possible to expect the Jaguars to lose to either the Pats or Chiefs, the Bengals to lose to either the Broncos or Steelers, and for the Jets to lose to Miami. We’re not just done yet.

On a quick, more dark side note, Al Wilson over London Fletcher-Baker in the Pro bowl?
Fletcher-Baker Wilson
Total Tackles 131 95
Solos 95 75
Sacks 2 1
Interceptions 3 0
Forced Fumbles 0 1
Recovered Fumbles 1 0
TDs 1 0
That’s all I have to say on that subject.

First of all, forget fantasy we have a lot to deal with, the Bills come first. But if you must: Brees, Owens, and Tomlinson. Lock of the Week Bears -4.5 over the Lions.

HO HO HO Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills!

Hello all!

My Brother in Law, a fellow diehard Bills fan in Rochester, just left me this ANGRY voice mail:

“Ahh Matt..you won’t believe it! I had 4 tickets to the Bills game this weekend and I had them sitting on my dashboard. Some Ahole smashed the winshield and….grrr….left me 4 more” Click.

With several thousand seats remaining for the Bills vs Titans game this Christmas Eve, fans will be watching the Yule Log instead of an exciting match up between two teams fighting for a playoff spot!

That’s right, I used Bills and Playoffs in the same sentence! I went there! Plus, Travis Henry makes his return to Buffalo, and we’ll get to see how Vince “ESPN Kisses My Butt More Than Tom Brady Now” Young handles the December weather at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Luckily, those of us in NYC WILL be able to catch this awesome and exciting game! Both Calico Jack’s and McFadden’s will be fully staffed and ready for us rabid fans! Yes its Christmas Eve, but what better way to spend it that watching the Bills in Manhattan, then strolling over and checking out Rockefeller Center, then maybe doing a little shopping. Got family in town? Bring em! We’ll be done with the Titans well before dinner time, and I know I won’t miss my wife’s Italian family’s multicourse seafood feast!

So slap your Santa hat on and come on down to 42nd and 2nd and catch the new and improved Buffalo Bills!

To those of you that we won’t see this weekend, please have a great and safe Holiday from Matt, Kevin, Phil, Michelle, Ryan and me.

HUGE Game on Sunday!

Hello all 1,500+ NYC Bills Fans!

The Bills just kicked the crap out of the “Superbowl Bound, Most Improved NFL Team, Joey Harrington is the next Dan Marino led” Miami Dolphin 21-0!!! This puts the Bills at 7-7 and with the Jaguars loss today, in playoff contention for the final AFC wildcard spot!

Its been humilating for me and other diehard Bills fans like me to see a playoff contending team in Buffalo not selling its games out. The 2006 Buffalo Bills are not only a playoff contender, they’re an exciting and explosive team to watch!

I spoke to a ton of you during and after the game today, which I’m proud to say that you couldn’t find a seat at either Calico Jack’s or McFadden’s. Almost eveyrbody is heading to Buffalo for Christmas next weekend. With a ton of seats available for the Titans vs Bills matchup at 1pm on Sunday, there’s no reason you guys can’t go to the game. Heck, get your family to go as well! If the Bills win out the season and go 9-7 there’s a chance they can get into the playoffs! The next step is Sunday when the Bills take on Vince Young and the Titants. Travis Henry makes his return to Buffalo (keep your 15 year old daughters at home) and who can forget the Music City Miracle. Every game is revenge!

We have an awesome contact at the Bills named Chris Costanzo who will hook you up with the best seats available and likely give ya some sort of discount! Give him a call and let’s pack that stadium for this huge game! His phone number is (716)312-8912 and his email is chris.costanzo@bills.nfl.net. Is there a better way to spend an early Christmas Eve????

I’ll be holding down the fort on 42nd and 2nd while Kevin Smith takes my place with our tickets at the game, so I expect to see those of you here in NYC for the Holidays at the game!

We’ll talk to you later this week, what an awesome win!!

Squish the Fish Sunday at 1!

Hi Everyone,

This Sunday the place to be is Little Buffalo as the Bills go for the season sweep of the hated Dolphins at 1pm. Hopefully everyone enjoyed this past week rubbing it in the face of every Jets fan you know. Sunday’s game should be a great one as these are two of the hottest teams in NFL. Unfortunately it is expected to be in the 50s for the game so if you know of any snow dances feel free to start dancing….now! I’m expecting big things again from the dominating Bills D as I picked them up for my fantasy team this week. Schobel and Clements, don’t let me down!! We’re expecting large crowds for the last game before the holidays so be sure to show up early.

Tailgate Photos
If anyone has photos from the tailgate last weekend we would love to see them. Please send them to me at this address. If the email does go through please let me know (sometimes big emails get rejected).

See you Sunday.

LET’S GO BUFFALO!

Finally! Success at the Swamp

Hi Everyone,

I guess the fifth time’s a charm! The Bills finally won a game at the Meadowlands and broke the curse of the NYCBBB tailgate. Hopefully you’ve seen the highlights and gloated to every Jets fan you know because it was an absolutely dominate performance by the Bills on the road against a playoff contender/pretender. The blueprint for this team’s success has been established: solid special teams, effective offense lead by the running game and mistake free play from JP and a defense that takes away the ball. The Bills are now 4-2 since the bye week (with the two loses coming on the road to Indy (losing by 1 point) and at home against San Diego (losing by 3) and are building serious moment toward a mathematically still alive Playoff berth and a very exciting 2007 season. Dick Jauron and JP have made a believer out of me! Their next task is at home against the equally resurgent Dolfelons at 1pm on Sunday (the game was changed back to 1pm right after our email last week). Despite the huge crowd at the tailgate Little Buffalo was hopping this week and is sure to be packed next weekend!

Tailgate Wrapup
Once again our tailgate exceeded all expectations. Lot 16C was rocking with at least 200+ Bills fans enjoying the beautiful weather and gameday atmosphere. Word has clearly spread about the tailgate since not only a ton of new NYCBBBers showed up but lots of Jets fans tried to get there early and take up all the good spaces! It was great to meet all of you and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

Also, thanks to everyone that chipped in for the $5 Beer and Booze special. These tailgates are were our only fundraisers this year and we managed to collect enough money to cover our expenses (website, email list, business cards, etc) for the entire year! THANK YOU!

NFL Films Special
For some reason ESPN decided to change the time for the special last night and most of us that set our DVRs missed it. It will be shown against at 1:30pm on Tuesday. Just to be safe I set up my DVR to record the show before and the show after cause I definitely don’t want to miss it and I encourage you to do the same!

Sabres/Devils Game
I know there are a ton of you making the trek back into the swamp tomorrow night for the Devils game. If you managed to watch any Sabres away games this year you’ve seen (and heard!) Buffalo fans coming out in force every night and I expect tomorrow to be no different. If you’d like to try to arrange to sit with a bunch of Sabres fans feel free to send me your phone number and I will try to find a spot for everyone to sit together or just listen for the Lets Go Buffalo chants! The arena is usually empty in the 200 level so it should be pretty easy.

If you are going home for the game this weekend have fun! We’ll see everyone else at Calico’s and McFadden’s this weekend for another round of Squish the Fish!

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets 4pm, Tailgate Time

Hello to All 1,578 Re-energized NYC Bills Fans!

“It’s the most wonder-ful time of the year!” No, this isn’t another Matt Kabel Holiday Music special, it’s the Kevin’s Ready to Tailgate in the Swamp for the 5th Consecutive year! We’ve got lots to cover, include Tailgate info, Tickets, Sabres, the Pinto on NFL Films, Time Change for the Dolfelons game and tickets for the last two home games! Enjoy:

New Jersey Jets vs. Buffalo Bills Tailgate
Are you ready for NYCBBB’s Legendary 5th Annual Tailgate Party this Sunday??? We will again be in Lot 16, Pole C, which is conveniently located near several portable bathrooms. Parking is $15, and the lots open at 10am. History suggests they will be open earlier than that but we will be there starting around 10:30am to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL 50 degree weather and I suggest getting there early to get a spot near us. There are a bunch of us that don’t have tickets and are going strictly to tailgate so I expect everyone to show up. No excuses! There is even setting up some TVs and watch the game from the parking lot. If you are interested let me know.

Beer n’ Food
We’ll have kegs of beer and bulk quantities of mimosas and bloody marys. $5 will get you an unlimited amount of all of these fine alcoholic beverages. There will be plenty of grill space around, so feel free to bring food to cook!

Saturday Night
We know a lot of folks will be coming from out of town for the game and are looking for a place to catch the Sabres play the hated Canadians. Our Sabres bar is the Blue Moon on 75th and 1st and they will have the game on as well as Labatt Blue on special during the game. Also, if you are going to the Sabres/Devils game next Tues or need tickets let me know!

Tickets for the Jets Game
Got any extras? Need some? Right now I know of two people that have an extra seat. Let me know if you are interested in tickets and I’ll try to coordinate. You can also post on our message board.

NFL Films
Remember back in September when our friend Michelle brought an NFL film crew with her for our NYCBBB Roadtrip to document Kenny’s tailgating festivities? After months of hard work she is ready to present it to the world! Be sure to turn in to ESPN Monday morning at 3:30am (right about the time you should be sobering up after the game) as well as Tues at 1:30pm. If you are like me and like to sleep/work during those hours, be sure to set you Tivo!

Time Change
Once again the Bills have been chosen to star in the 4pm afternoon game. Their home game against the Dolfelons (which I know a lot of you will be there for) has been moved to 4pm. I’ll help the NFL explain:

“With the Bills winning two of their last three games — all decided by a field goal and some terrible calls by the refs in the San Diego game — and the Dolphins earning victories in four of their last five games despite starting Joey Harrington at QB, the move to the 4:05 PM ET start will enable many more fans across the country to see these two teams on the rise. It’s a much bigger showcase for Buffalo and Miami, even though we all hate Miami and know they suck” said Howard Katz, NFL Senior VP of Broadcasting.

Bills Ticket Offer
Need tickets for the Dolfelons or Titans game on Christmas Eve? The Bills have a special offer for NYCBBB members. Call 1-877-BB-TICKS, ext 8912 and mention code GPBB to save $3 per ticket as well as receive a commemorative cup.

And…..I’m spent. I look forward to seeing everyone bright and EARLY Sunday afternoon!

San Diego Chargers at Buffalo Bills

Hello all 1,589 NYC Buffalo Bills Fans!

67 degrees on November 30th! I don’t even feel comfortable playing my Christmas music in this weather! No fear though, the Chargers will be forced to leave the 70 degree weather of California to face the Bills in 35 degree Ralph Wilson Stadium with snow showers! Let’s see how Phil Rivers likes THAT! Players said that even though there were 10,000 empty seats last week, it was the loudest crowd they’ve heard in years! That’s because the fair weather fans are gone and the REAL fans are supporting this team!

Yes, I am a fan of the exclamation points this morning, but how can I NOT be? The Bills have won 3 out of the last 4 games, are back in playoff contention, JP is showing signs of promise (as is the offensive line,) and we will be taking on the best team in football at home in cold weather with the potential for snow!

Kickoff is at 1pm this Sunday, McFadden’s and Calico’s will be fully staffed and is ready for us. To those of you who have missed the last 2 exciting games, this is your chance to make it out and watch what is sure to be one heck of a Bills game! You’ll even get to see the NFL’s best player in action, LT, who is en route to breaking the single season TD record. Will the Bills be able to stop him?

My wife was at the bars this weekend with the little guy (who had a blast) and she asked “what happened to all the regulars from the first few years of NYCBBB?” I don’t know, where are all of you guys? You know who you are, and I hope to see you back where you belong this weekend to join the faithful who have been making it out and having a blast the last few weeks!

It’s the most…wonderful time…of the year….

For the latest news, check out www.billsdaily.com

We’ll see you at the bars! GO BILLS!!!

New Time for Buffalo Bills at New York Jets

Hello all!

What a GREAT game! I feel bad for those of you that missed the Bills spank the Jaguars. This team has become fun to watch again for the first time in years! The Bills are (gasp) back in the playoff hunt as they take on the San Diego Chargers this Sunday at 1pm. Because of the Bills sudden 5-6 record, we’re expecting a big crowd. Be sure to make reservations at Calicos if you want to guarantee yourself a seat. You can call starting Tuesday at noon, 212-557-4300.

Bills at Jets
The league announced today that the Bills @ Jets game on December 10th has been moved from 1pm to 4:15pm. Could it be that the league recognizes that this game could have playoff implications? Kevin Smith will send out tailgating plans soon.
