Slow Week

Hello all,

Well, many of you can breath a sigh of relief. Kordell Stewart was signed by the Ravens last week so he will NOT be heading to Buffalo. One Bills Drive has been quite quiet in free agency so far, but the team has been participating in optional training camps. Word has it that McGahee looks strong and there is a great competition going on for the safety spots. Coy Wire has been moved to Free Safety, so look for he and Lawyer Milloy to be on the field together this season. There is even a rumor that on a trick play, Drew Bledsoe lined up as a receiver and caught a pass from JP Losman!

BuffaloBills.com
BuffaloBills.com has gone under major renovations in the past few weeks. There are stories on players almost daily, and has become a site that is worth checking on an every day basis. Be sure to check it out! www.buffalobills.com

Great Buffalo History Website
Want to see pictures of Buffalo from the 19th century, or read about interesting facts associated with the Queen City? How about the strange fact that the air conditioner was invented in Buffalo (which my father’s reply to that was ‘yeah right, and steam heat for houses was invented here in Florida’) You can find it all on this great Buffalo Historical site!

Matt Soreco
I’d like to take this time to congratulate Matt Soreco who will be wed this weekend. If you’d like to send Matt your best wishes, please email him at soreco at nycbbb.com

JP Losman Article

Hello all,

Well, its June 2nd and teams are unloading their over-priced veterans as we speak. Look for the Bills to sign somebody within a week. We will email you if its anyone newsworthy.

Saw a great interview with Tim Russert last night speaking about his book and growing up in South Buffalo. Its receiving tons of acclaim and really putting the spotlight on the Queen City. I’m now reading another book about Buffalo that my mother gave me. Its called City of Light (written by Lauren Belfer) and this murder mystery novel is set in 1901 during the Pan-American Exposition when Buffalo was the eighth most populated US city and also one of the wealthiest. I will let you know how it is.

JP Losman
There is a great article written by JP Losman and his experiences as a Buffalo Bill so far. Who knows what kind of QB he’s going to make, but you gotta love his personality and work ethic.

Trip to Buffalo for Bills/Jets
Planning is underway for NYCBBB and DC Backers trip to Buffalo for the November 7th Bills/Jets game. A tour of Ralph Wilson Stadium on the Saturday before the game is included in the trip. Please email me if you are interested and have not yet done so.

Air Conditioners
Okay, I know this isn’t “Buffalo/Bills -related”, but Nicole and I went air-conditioner shopping this weekend, and I have no idea if you guys are aware that the prices of AC’s have PLUMMETED! You can get an highly energy efficient digital AC for under $200, which was unheard of two years ago. If you plan on buying an AC, or have thought about upgrading an old one, now is the time to do it!

New E-mail Addresses

Hello all 649 of you (will we EVER reach 650?)

Yes, we all know this is a slow off-season. Why not use the free time to read the local Western New York papers and catch up on what’s happening there? I would also like to announce that I am now an official Buffalo Bills Season Ticket Holder. Member Mike Jason and I decided to split 2 seats and each picked 4 games. You have no idea of the high I felt when the deal went through. I’ll be in section 118 row 18 on the aisle if you ever want to swing by and say hello!

New E-mail Addresses
Due to the increase in volume of emails between Matt, I, and all you wonderful Bills fans, we have decided to create NYCBBB email addresses for us to improve interaction with our members. We really do read every email you send, and reply to 99% of them. Please use the following email addresses to reach us:

Big Russ and Me
Just finished reading Big Russ and Me. I have to say that I LOVED the book and all of you should take the time to read it! It has received great reviews not only from Buffalonians, but nationally and gives the Queen City the great press it deserves. Check out the website for more details:

Classic Game
Thanks to all of you who offered classic Bills games on tape. Matt and I are trying to pick one that most people would enjoy watching, possibly the 51-3 rout of the Raiders in the AFC Championship game.

Classic Game at McFadden’s!

Hello all you 647 Bills Fans (6 new ones!),

I am 100 pages into Tim Russert’s new book Big Russ and Me, and am enjoying it. I think all of us could relate to Russert’s childhood in one way or another as he talks about growing up in South Buffalo, the Broadway Market, Crystal Beach, the OLV Cathedral, Fish Fries at Hoaks, and Buffalo’s most influential person of the 20th Century, Fr. Baker. I’ll let you know more when I finish it. Please visit his website for more information www.bigrussandme.com

Classic Games
Last year we showed the Houston Comeback game at McFadden’s and had a drink special to go along with it. Please let me know if you have any classic games on tape (NOT SUPER BOWLS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!) or if there is a game you’d love to see. We’d like to have a Second Annual Bills Classic Game Night at McFadden’s in the near future!

Trip to Buffalo for the Jets Game
WOW, I have over 30 email addresses from you guys and 6 from our Washington DC Backers that want to go on a pilgrimage to our Holy Land for the Bills/Jets game on November 7th. If you haven’t emailed me with interest, please do so.

Buffalo Philharmonic
Thanks again to all of you have bought tickets to the Buffalo Philharmonic’s performance at Carnegie Hall on June 6th. For those of you that haven’t, ticket prices range from $20-57 with a discount for our members. Tickets can be ordered through CarnegieCharge at (212) 247-7800. I was going through old boxes this weekend and came across my Bills memorabilia from years ago. My girlfriend said to me “Boy, you really HAVE been a Bills fan since you were a kid”…I turned to her and said “Since I was in the womb Nicole, since I was in the womb”

Shuffle off to Buffalo!

Hello all 642 Bills fans!

Well, the 2004-05 schedule is out and preparations for an NYCBBB trip to the Holy Land have begun! In speaking with various Bills staff members, Matt and I have decided that we will make the trip to Orchard Park for the November 7th Bills/Jets game. This game would be much easier to get bulk seats to, and we could also drag any Jets fan friends to Western New York for a game and use them to pump some money into the local economy. I’m still ironing out details, including flight plans, but a tour of the facilities and a player meet n’ greet are at the top of the list for any of you that join us.

Please email me if you have any interest so I can start building a list and contact you with details when I get them.

Tim Russert’s Book
My VP just gave me a copy of Tim Russert’s new book, which is about his life growing up in Buffalo with his father. Included are some pictures, one of which is Al Gore showing “satellite images” of why the homerun throwback in Tennessee was a fair play. I think we all know that it WAS NOT. I’ll let you know what I thought after I read it.

Peace Bridge

Hello all 641 of you!

I was reading the Buffalo News this morning looking through recent articles and found an interesting one on the designs for the new Peace Bridge. It shows several potential designs that you can view and read information about. There is also a big debate about whether to replace the old bridge, or build a new one next it. Considering the bridges around the world that have become icons of their cities (NYC, San Francisco, Sydney, and now Tampa with its new Sunshine Bridge), a new impressive bridge linking the US to Canada through Buffalo would be a major shot in the arm for the city, considering it links two countries. Please check out the following site which also allows you to vote on which design you like. The voting ends on Sunday, which is why I am sending this link today. The results will be displayed at an upcoming meeting.

Buffalo Philharmonic in NYC!

Hello all 641 of you!

I have just returned from a great vacation in sunny Florida, and am sitting under these beautiful fluorescent lights staring at my view of a brick wall. There is a restaurant in Sarasota called Wings n’ Weenies which carries Sahlen Hot Dogs and makes true Buffalo wings and my mind is there right now as I write this.

I have 2 pieces of good news for you. First off, it was announced that ALL NFL pre-season games will be televised on the NFL Network this summer. Most will be on tape delay and the schedule for this hasn’t been released yet. If games occur on a weekend at a reasonable hour, we’ll show them at McFadden’s with a special. We’ll have to wait til the schedule comes out though so sit tight.

Secondly, State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt of Buffalo, who is a leading candidate to be the next mayor of the Queen City (www.samhoyt.com), has taken an extreme interest in our group, and on top of spreading news about us around WNY, would like to make a continuing effort to make us all feel closer to Buffalo. Sam has notified me that the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing at Carnegie Hall on June 6th and many Buffalonians will be flying here to see them play that weekend. He has arranged a discount for us Buffalonians already here in NYC to see a bit of our Buffalo culture in Manhattan. Here is the ad the BPO would like me to pass onto you:

To the New York City Buffalo Bills Backers:

Buffalo Chicken Wings, Elmwood Avenue, Weber’s Mustard, Great Architecture, Aunt Rosie’s Loganberry, Beef on Weck, Sponge Candy, The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

These are just some of the great things that Buffalo has to offer and next month one of them is coming to your own backyard.

On June 6, 2004, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra returns to Carnegie Hall for a performance that’s guaranteed to stir some of your greatest memories of Buffalo. Join the BPO and JoAnn Falletta – one of the only female music directors in the country – for a concert featuring the program that’s climbing to the top of the Classics charts in England and the U.S. What a great reason to call your old friends from Buffalo for a reunion in the Big Apple. And, just when you thought that it would never pay off to have Buffalo ties, we’re offering special pricing just for you:

1st Tier Balcony – $63
Parquet Prime – $57
Orchestra/Parquet Balance – $41.50
2nd Tier Box Seats – $41.50 & $31
Dress Circle – $31
Center Balcony – $23
Balcony – $19.50

Tickets can be ordered through CarnegieCharge at (212) 247-7800. Don’t forget to mention Code BPOP to receive your discount. Great seats are still available, but don’t wait too long! For more information, visit https://bpo.org/ orhttps://www.carnegiehall.org/

I plan to attend this worthwhile event to show my support for one of the great culture icons of our city. I will pass on more details about the event as I receive them.

Also, as many of you know, a great article about us appeared in the Southtowns Citizen this past week. We’ll try to get the article up on our website ASAP.

Labatt Blue Light

Hello 641 Bills fans (we lost one of you!)

I just spoke to the owners of McFadden’s and I have good and bad news. Which do you want first? The bad? OK…

Bad news is that Labatt Blue Light kegs are not distributed in the NYC area. This means no kegs of Labatt Blue Light this Saturday. McFadden’s is working with Labatt Blue to get Light kegs for the season, telling them its obviously in their best interest considering the size of our group. We’ll have to wait and see.

You want the good news?

To show how committed McFadden’s is to our group, they want to keep their promise to us and offer Labatt Blue Light. So, the owner of McFadden’s has ordered 20 cases of Labatt Blue Light BOTTLES and those will be included in Saturday’s all you can drink special!

Also, for $15, you can get unlimited soda and wings from 12-7 if you want to bring along your kids.

Draft Party and 2nd Year Anniversary

Hello all 642 Bills fans!

OK, my turn to try out this new email system that Matt Soreco implemented. It lists the number of members on our email list at the top so I can accurately show you how many of us Buffalonians are reading these emails in NYC. I never would have thought to do this, so we can all see what a great team Matt and I are! I’m trying to figure out how to work this damn thing, so bare with me! I’m numbering the topics cuz I have no clue how to put them in color like I usually do. Here we go…

1) Draft Party
Yes, I know we are pounding this into you, but this is the only off-season NYCBBB event we can guarantee doing to ease that suffering of the lack of our Bills and Buffalo. This is also NYCBBB’s 2nd Birthday, 20 members to 642 in two years! Who would have thought that there were that many of us here? And we’re still finding new members!

The party is this Saturday, which is supposed to be a beautiful day (hopefully we’ll be able to have those huge windows in front open!) so come into the city and hang out with your fellow Bills fans, drink some Labatt Blue (LIGHT), have some wings or a Sahlens Hot Dog, and feel like you’re back in Western New York for a few hours. Lets be honest here, this is a GREAT 7 hour special!

Also, we WILL have the Yankees/Red Sox game on as well as the draft. Here again are the specials:

From 12-7pm (During the ESPN Coverage)
$30 will get you all you can drink draft beer, including Labatt Blue AND Blue LIGHT!! The only beer not included is Guinness. This also includes all you can eat wings for those 7 hours! By purchasing the special, you will be entered into a raffle to win 2 tickets to an upcoming Yankees game! The winning ticket will be picked towards the end of the special.

Also, all mixed drinks (excluding top shelf and shots) will be $4 each. That includes Absolut, Captain Morgans, Jack Daniels, etc. (which I intend to be throwing back)

Sahlens hot dogs WILL be available for purchase.

2) BuffaloBills.com
www.buffalobills.com is re-launching their website with upgrades later today, be sure to check it out!

3) Bills Daily
Gonna be at work or away from the TV on Draft Day? Check out www.billsdaily.comfor up to minute picks and news throughout the entire draft!

4) Matt Soreco
Considering that our co-leader, Matt Soreco, will be getting married early this summer, this will be Matt’s last NYCBBB event before he takes the plunge…err..happy road of life! Be sure to give Matt your best wishes and buy him a shot!

This will be my girlfriend’s first trip to McFadden’s for a NYCBBB event, is it out of line for me to be a little scared of what she might witness?

2004 Draft Party and Schedule!

Hello all 650 of you!

Its that time of the year already, the schedules are out and the draft is upon us..and the birds are a-singin! Gonna be in the 70’s this weekend! In terms of the draft, there are major rumors that we are going to trade our 13th pick to move up or down, so we recommend you get there EARLY. Also, its a 7 hour special, so if you want to come in and watch the Bills pick, then head out to do some shopping or sightseeing and return for the next pick, its a perfect day for that! This may be the only NYCBBB event of the off-season, so please make the effort to stop by! Plus, its booze, wings and football…who can pass THAT up on a Saturday afternoon???

Draft Party – Next Saturday April 24th
Matt and I are still hammering away details for the season’s beer/food upgrades. Since the draft party is so unique, we came up with a special that will work in everybody’s favor. Plus, you can win 2 Yankees tickets!
